Thanks so much for reporting this issue, Mayor Leng. My friends and I are waiting for the next posted comment from the Engineering Inspector which usually reads as follows:
“The Town currently repairs sidewalks based on the roads with the oldest complaints. Once we get to a street, we attempt to repair all sidewalk problems on the street. We are currently working on streets with complaints from 2007 and are about to begin 2008 streets. Based on current funding and given your street is a 20XX street, we do not have a good estimate on when the repair will be conducted.”
But, this issue has been reported directly by you, the boss. It is well known that all issues reported by you receive faster service than issues reported by the regular Joe Schmoes. This isn't rocket science. If I were employed with our town, I would be sure to give expeditious attention to anything reported by my boss.
Thank you for reporting the site to the Town. We will be dispatching our inspector to the site to evaluate the sidewalk. Please allow us up to two weeks to conduct the re-inspection.
The Engineering Department originally inspected the site on 11/9/2015 and did a re-evaluation of the road earlier this year. We have determined that the sidewalk, and driveway apron do need to be repaired but previously did not rise to the level of a claim location. The site was added to our master list for repairs in 2015.
The Town currently repairs sidewalks based the level of damage (claims list) and then secondarily on the roads with the oldest reported complaints. Once we get to a street, we attempt to repair all sidewalk problems on the street. We are currently working on streets with complaints from 2008. Based on current funding and given your street is a 2015 street, due to budgetary concerns, we do not have a good estimate on when the repair will be conducted.
Right now, the money we have requested from the state has not been approved, so there is no budget to work on any further sidewalks. The Legislative Council denied the request for a capital allocation. When the money from the state is approved, we will be able to conduct most of the claims list ($250,000 of the anticipated $300,000+ cost). We anticipate our total repair program will cost close to $15 million dollars.
